I think I could take Andy Murray. Look at that forehand. It’s ALL tennis. You know it’s going to have this big wind up and follow through.

Check out this cool table from LA clothes designer James Pearse. I’m sure it will sell well because Mr Pearse is an established designer. Just one little problem. It’s awfully similar to the table my friend Ryan Vanderbilt designed almost three years ago. As seen here in my old office, before it did a stint in the private room at SPiN and ended up in Rob Stone’s office. Just sayin’.
Posted by jamescooper | No CommentsWe know that Obama and the kids like to play every now and then. And we know that Dave likes a paddle or two. But I don’t think we’ve ever seen them play on film. From this short clip we can deduce what we probably already suspected, BRITS ARE BETTER THAN AMERICANS. Ha. Ha. Happy memorial day one and all.

Is the most badass ping pong case to hit the streets? It’s got a slightly weird name - the Kelli Mink. I understand that paddles are called Kelle in Germany, but the mink bit makes me think that it’s made of mink fur. Maybe it is, that would be badass. But opun reading, it’s not. The case is made of recycled couch leather. So, you know, that cow died for a good reason.
The princely sum of $220 get’s you one. Maybe a little pricey, but I like the idea. Get one here.

Many moons ago I used to shop in the London oki-ni store. It had sneakers that were double the price of everywhere else - and what self respecting advertising creative doesn’t wouldn’t want to spend more money than is strictly necessary on sneakers? So it’s fun to see this interactive movie that allows you to click on any item of clothing to buy it. Diesel did something fairly similar a while back - but that video didn’t feature an awesome ping pong game, so who cares about that.
Check out the full experience here. Pretty solid backhand the blond dude has.

Recent piece in the very excellent Bloomberg Business Week (client!) about how Ping Pong is taking over the big corporate spaces. There have been a ton of industry related tournaments recently. Long may it continue.

Great slo mo film shot by Matthew Donaldson showing Sooyeon killing it in some very nice custom made threads. She’s always been able to play the shots - even in the heels. Check out the full film here.
Posted by jamescooper | No CommentsA little film from the recent World Championship of Ping Pong in Las Vegas. This was a sandpaper tournament only, but with a prize of 100 G’s. Not bad. I think I spot previous CPP Brooklyn tournament winner Kaz in there, and also my coach Ernesto, who lost in the final. Next year Ernesto!

Posted by jamescooper | No CommentsA few weeks back i went along to the ‘Your Brain on Ping Pong’ show at the Natural History museum. It was remarkable to see people playing underneath a life sized replica of a blue whale but the highlight was a talk Dr Wendy Suzuki gave. She explained how the brain functions on ping pong and why it’s such a good sport for eggheads. There is a small piece on ABC news here or you can watch a longer edit of the talk that I put together. Warning - you may never think about sport in the same way again and it features a real live brain. For reals.
